[Guess who's just really loving his camera? Iago. That's right. He pulls his hair back at the nape of his neck and then settles down in front of the camera, propping his feet up on the desk lazily. He has a ball of paper in his hands and tosses it up only to catch it again and start the cycle over.]

I need someone with impressive writing skills. There's a letter that needs writing and I refuse to do it. I'd be willing to pay with whatever method you deem appropriate.

And, of course, discretion is...[smirk] strongly encouraged.

[O'Brien was idly reading his book on how to play a trumpet, trying to get the hang of some more complex ideas, mainly to pass the time, and spotted Iago coming in,]

Comrade. Sit down, please. [He was polite, welcoming and gracious. O'Brien could do it when it was in his interest. And lying to people made him feel powerful, never mind the exchange.]

[Iago came and sat down, looking quite calm and collected. He lounged back in the chair, watching the other man curiously.]

First...I have to ask...what do you want in terms of compensation?

[O'Brien shrugged lightly, as this wasn't important to him,] Alcohol, preferably.

Or some information, but we can discuss that later.

[Iago snorted. He could get the first. The second...he wasn't sure. Either way, he was sure that he could pay and so relaxed on that subject.]

Yes, we can. So now...the letter.

Yes, the letter.

Tell me what I need to know. I'll need a sample of a letter from you to someone in a similar situation, if you want me to directly copy style.

[Iago gave him a skeptical, though almost amused, look.]

How well can you fake emotion in writing?

Depends on the emotion, comrade. [Love, he always struggled with, but others were much easier.]

I convinced most of the boat, comrade, that I was dedicated to reforming, did I not? I convinced them of my remorse.

Can you fake anger? Hatred? Resentment? Jealousy?

[O'Brien almost laughed. He simply set his book properly aside, and nodded,] Easily, comrade. Very easily. Given the context and enough information, I can easily fake it.

[Iago smirked at that.]

Good. Now, what information do you need? I can tell you everything you need to know.

[O'Brien paused, and then asked him,]

Who is it to be written to, why are you being asked to write it, and what would you want to be said in such a letter?

Othello, the man I once served and a dear friend. My warden demands it in exchange for something I want. And it needs to be filled with all the aforementioned emotions, preferably including abandonment in there as well as broken promises and lies.

Make it sound like it's from a jilted lover for an extra favor. [Iago sat back after he explained, looking up to the ceiling with a chuckle.]

[O'Brien nods, and makes a mental note of everything Iago says,]

I'll see what I can do, comrade, as far as jilted love goes. I'll need to see something written by you aside from a journal post, though. I have to get tone and style right, no matter of the content.

And there'll have to be some information provided on both you and Othello's history, but I think that should be easy enough.

I had to write two other letters of a similar nature. I will show them to you. [He shrugged once, not really caring who saw it. It was all a lie anyway.]

[There was a slight smile, this was too easy,] Good, comrade. They will do nicely.

Two more questions, comrade. Why don't you want to write them yourself? And how long would you expect such a ltter to be?

Re: spam

Why not? Because I told him I wouldn't. And I don't like to prove myself wrong. Even if he thinks I did. [He considered the second question for a while longer.]

As long as it needs to be.

[O'Brien just gave him a puzzled look.] You do realise, comrade, that if he thinks you've done it... you might as well have proved him right and yourself wrong. It's just as good as writing it yourself.

If he thinks I've done it...I'll get what I want. But I'll still be able to retain my dignity.

I understand what you're trying to prove, but I want what I want and I'll do what I can to get it.

There's no use in dignity if only you and me know you've got it, comrade.

[He shrugged,] But that's up to you. Nothing to do with me, comrade.

Ah, but we're not the only ones who know about the letter now. And who know I won't do it. But the Marquis thinks it's just between the two of us.

[O'Brien just shrugged,] It's nothing to do me anymore, comrade. Just give me some history to work on and those letters, and I'll do what I can.
